Peter Erlinder Returns from Rwanda

Minneapolis attorney arrived tonight from Nairobi where he rested there for about three days after the Rwandan government released him unconditional from jail.
After  21 days spent in a Rwanda jail, Erlinder told his supporters, media and others at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport that he will talk more about his experience in Rwanda tomorrow.
He was met there by his wife, Masako Usui, supporters and others and said, “Unlike Mark Twain, the reports of my demise were only slightly exaggerated.”

Erlinder was arrested and charged for breaking the Rwandan genocide ideology law - which prohibits anyone from questioning the official Rwandan account of the killings in 1984.
Erlinder challenged many times about the Rwandan government’s version of “Genocide”  difinition and called for expanding the investigation which as some suspects could include the current President of Rwanda, Paul Kegame and others in the goverment.
Early last month, Erlinder left for Rwanda to defend Victoire Ingabire, an opposition candidate for president in the upcoming August election, who is also charged with genocide ideology denial but ended up arrested by the Rwandan government.

Erlinder is also known for his critic of US Policy on Rwandan government. He told African News Journal just before his arrest that “Kagame has always depended upon Pentagon/US support...which international bodies are willing to take-on the Pentagon, Clinton's State Dept and Pres Obama?  When Kagame becomes the same kind of embarrassment that Mobutu became, he will be deposed....one hopes peacefull”
Erlinder is released after a worldwide campaign from supporters reached Rwanda including human rights organizations, law institutions and many others. Professor Erlinder teaches at St. Paul based William Mitchel College of Law and is a former president of the National Lawyers Guild.
