The Save Yar Campaign is asking the University of Minnesota permission to send three U. of M. students to Juba, South Sudan, over Spring Break. Their purpose is to meet with local leaders and interview local researchers who can carry for this work on the ground over there long-term. See http://save-yar.org/our-mission/
The Campaign have gotten coverage and support from members of Congress for their work based in the U.S., but they say it's time to go to the place where rampant child abduction is occurring. In parts of South Sudan, bandits steal children from other communities like cattle. Hundreds of abductions in recent years have gone unpunished as these human-rights violations are overshadowed by other problems.
The Save Yar Campaign has been working hard from Minneapolis since October to stop this wave of abductions. "We took our campaign to Washington, D.C. and, with the support of Congress and federal departments, met with South Sudan's president. Now it's time to carry this campaign to the place where the change has to occur – South Sudan”. Team members said.
The Save Yar student organization is holding a fundraiser in Minneapolis' Cedar-Riverside neighborhood on this Saturday to raise funds for the trip and hopes everyone to join them.
