Effective this February, Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights will change its name to The Advocates for Human Rights. Although the organization’s name is changing, its mission to promote and protect human rights locally, nationally, and internationally will remain the same.
The Advocates for Human Rights (The Advocates) maintains a strong commitment to all aspects of its work, including connecting important local human rights issues to the global human rights movement. The name change will help avoid confusion about the scope of The Advocates’ work, as well as its status as independent NGO and not a state agency. The name will better represent the organization as a whole.
The nonprofit, based in Minneapolis, has been operating for 25 years. The Advocates for Human Rights will still be located at 650 Third Avenue South, Suite 550 in downtown Minneapolis. Please visit the new website at www.theadvocatesforhumanrights.org to stay informed about The Advocates and upcoming events.
The Advocates for Human Rights is a non-governmental, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of internationally recognized human rights. With the help of over 600 volunteers, Minnesota Advocates investigates and exposes human rights violations; represents immigrants and refugees in our community who are victims of human rights abuses, trains and assists groups that protect human rights; and works through education and advocacy in Minnesota to engage the public, policy makers and children about human rights and cultural understanding. Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations.
